Almaty, 8 to 12 November 2004. The International Atomic Energy Agency from 8 to 12 November 2004 meets with the specialists of Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Committee and experts from different Republican Ministries and Nuclear Technology Safety Center .

The overall objective of the consultancy is to assist the Government of Kazakhstan in finishing the development of national strategy for regaining control over orphan sources and strengthening control over vulnerable radioactive sources.

This involves the review of the developed draft of the strategy and gathering of information with regard to the historical and current status of source control in the country. Following the collection and analysis of these data, an action plan will be drafted, the subsequent implementation of which should result in all significant radioactive sources being managed in a safe and secure manner.

This activity is part of the Agency's approved Programme for the year 2004 and is included under Project No. K602.
