Assistance of British Experts in Development of the Nuclear Technology Parks in Kurchatov and in Alatau

The main goal of the meeting between foreign experts of the Closed Nuclear Centres Programme (CNCP) and Kazakhstani specialists is the exchange of experiences in stable socio-economic development of closed scientific centers.

As a part of preparation for construction of the park of nuclear technologies and special economic area in Kurchatov, the NNC specialists have been carrying on negotiations with CNCP during the last year regarding the assistance of the British experts. The assistance under consideration includes training in carrying out of marketing research, feasibility studies and business planning for Technopark. The programme will also consider collaborative projects with the Institute of Nuclear Physics of NNC in Alatau.

For decades, the population and institutions of the former closed cities had worked for one customer under conditions of total secrecy and isolation, so at present they have little experience in commercial activity. Consequently, the primary cooperative effort with CNCP will be aimed at development of the entrepreneurial abilities of the scientists and former weapon specialists.

In particular, the British programme will be focused on financing the research and development of production and services in the civil sphere, which can use the knowledge, experience and resources of the former closed cities to form the base for creation of permanent work places and development of viable enterprises. In cooperation with British and other international partners, the main efforts will be devoted to commercialization of these products and services.
