Two NNSA-sponsored events: a nuclear export control end-use/end-user
workshop, and training for Kazakhstani technical experts on the "STORKE"
automated system for licensing nuclear export controlled commodities
were held in Almaty, May 21-23.

The 1.5-day end-use/end-user workshop has commenced 21 May 2002 at
hotel Kazakhstan and has targeted Kazakhstani officials involved in
the licensing of nuclear and nuclear-related controlled commodities.
The 1.5-day STORKE training session has commenced midday 22 May 2002.
Experts from the Institute of Atomic Energy has provided an overview
of the automated licensing system and has provided training on its use
to Atomic Energy Committee staff and other relevant persons. The training
has concluded 23 May 2002 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the
processing of the first license via STORKE.
